Mangrove planting in Tanarajae village, Labakkang sub-district, Pangkajene and Islands – South Sulawesi
by adminapri December 5, 2023 0 commentsMangroves are a type of forest that grows in tidal areas, especially on protected beaches, lagoons and river estuaries that are flooded at high tide and free from inundation at low tide whose plant communities are tolerant of salinity. Mangrove forests have physical, ecological and economic functions and benefits. Physically, the benefits of mangroves include protection against sedimentation, abrasion and sea water intrusion, resistance to storms and salt-laden winds, and to reduce carbon emissions. Ecologically, mangrove forests function as a place to live, protection and food source for marine biota and species in the surrounding area. Meanwhile, economically, mangrove forests function as a tourist recreation area, a source of raw materials for buildings and firewood as well as a source of livelihood for the community as fishermen who catch fish, shrimp, crabs and others.
Mangrove planting was carried out in Tanarajae village, Labakkang sub-district, Pangkajene and Islands districts. This activity involved several parties, namely the Village Head, the Pangkep Student Organization, and the Nature Lover Student Organization from several schools, namely SMA 2 Pangkep and MAN Pangkep. This activity was organized by the Pangkep Student Organization, which also invited Enumerators personally because the aim of this activity has the same vision as APRI, namely sustainable fisheries.
