PCA Group Distributes NOAA-Recommended Crab Traps to Support Marine Mammal Fisheries in Demak, Central Java

On December 25, 2025, PCA Group once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable fisheries by distributing NOAA-recommended crab traps (bubu) to blue swimming crab fishermen in Mro Village, Demak Regency, Central Java. This initiative aims to support the transition from gillnets to more environmentally friendly fishing gear that is safe for marine mammals and aligned with international conservation standards.

The bubu traps distributed by PCA Group are recognized as a selective fishing method that minimizes the risk of entanglement for marine mammals. This approach is in line with recommendations from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and supports compliance with the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), which emphasizes responsible fishing practices and ecosystem protection.

Through this program, PCA Group continues to strengthen collaboration with local fishermen by promoting fishing gear that not only protects marine biodiversity but also ensures the long-term sustainability of blue swimming crab fisheries. The distribution of crab traps also contributes to improving fishermen’s productivity while reducing negative impacts on the marine environment.
