PT. KAIA continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable fisheries by once again distributing crab traps (bubu) as a replacement for gillnets to blue swimming crab fishermen in the Madura region. This initiative supports the adoption of marine mammal-safe fishing gear that reduces the risk of bycatch and aligns with responsible fisheries management practices.

The distributed bubu traps are designed to be a selective and environmentally friendly fishing method, helping to minimize interactions with marine mammals compared to conventional gillnets. By encouraging the transition to safer fishing gear, PT. KAIA actively supports efforts to protect marine biodiversity while maintaining fishermen’s productivity and livelihoods.

This program is part of PT. KAIA’s ongoing collaboration with local fishing communities to promote sustainable blue swimming crab fisheries in Madura waters. The initiative also reflects PT. KAIA’s alignment with international fisheries sustainability principles, including recommendations related to marine mammal protection and ecosystem-based fisheries management.

Through the continued distribution of crab traps, PT. KAIA reinforces its role in building a responsible and sustainable seafood supply chain. The company remains committed to supporting coastal communities, safeguarding marine ecosystems, and contributing to the long-term sustainability of Indonesia’s fisheries sector, particularly in the Madura region.
