Towards Year-End, PT. BMI Distributes Crab Traps in Cirebon to Support Sustainable and Marine Mammal-Safe Fisheries
by adminapri January 1, 2026 0 commentsAs the year comes to a close, PT. BMI reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable fisheries by distributing blue swimming crab traps (bubu) to fishermen in Cirebon, West Java. This initiative aims to support the conservation of crab resources while promoting fishing practices that are safe for marine mammals.
The distribution of bubu traps is part of PT. BMI’s efforts to encourage the transition from conventional fishing gear to more selective and environmentally friendly alternatives. Compared to gillnets, crab traps help reduce the risk of bycatch and accidental interactions with marine mammals, contributing to healthier marine ecosystems.
Through this program, PT. BMI works closely with local fishing communities to strengthen sustainable blue swimming crab fisheries and ensure the long-term availability of marine resources. The initiative also aligns with international fisheries sustainability principles and supports responsible seafood supply chains.
By implementing this year-end distribution program in Cirebon, PT. BMI continues to play an active role in safeguarding marine biodiversity, supporting fishermen’s livelihoods, and promoting fisheries practices that balance economic value with environmental responsibility.
