APRI Expands Fishing Gear Swap Program Through Crab Traps Distribution in Pasuruan

Thursday, 26 November 2025 — APRI carried out an activity to distribute assistance in the form of bubu (crab traps) to blue swimming crab gillnet fishermen in Pasuruan Regency. The event took place at the 3rd Floor Hall of the Pasuruan Regency Fisheries Office, where APRI officially handed over bubu fishing gear to crab fishermen as a replacement for gillnets.

The activity was attended by the Head of the Capture Fisheries Division of the Pasuruan Regency Fisheries Office, Mr. Ir. Soegeng Soebijanto, MMA, as well as the Head of the East Java Provincial Marine and Fisheries Office Branch, Mr. Miftakhul Munir, S.Pi., M.Si., along with his delegation, who were present to directly conduct socialization on the E-BKP program for crab fishermen.

The event was also attended by Dr. Ir. Kuncoro Catur Nugroho, M.M., Chairman of APRI, who symbolically received the gillnet fishing gear that was exchanged for bubu traps in accordance with NOAA recommendations related to the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) policy.

A total of 50 beneficiary gillnet fishermen from Mertasinga Village participated in the activity. In total, 1,000 bubu traps were distributed to fishermen groups in collaboration with local fisheries extension officers.

Collaboration Toward Sustainable and Traceable Fisheries

This joint action reflects a strong collaboration between APRI and government fisheries institutions in ensuring a responsible, legal, and traceable blue swimming crab fishery in Indonesia. The program is expected to contribute to sustainable stock management, supply chain resilience, and continued access to international markets.
