The Indonesian Blue Swimming Cab Association (APRI) has held the First Quarterly Meeting in 2018 with the topic “Building a sustainable crab industry from capture and cultivation fisheries to meet international export and certification targets”. This meeting was held in Semarang, Central Java on April 14 2017. APRI also invited several speakers such as Mr. Sugeng Raharjo from the Brackish Water Aquaculture Center (BBPBAP Jepara) to present the cultivation of the BSC cultivation program in the pond. Mr. Hirmen Syofyanto (MSC) was also invited as a speaker on the Marine Stewardship Council Fish for Good – Indonesia. This is an attempt by APRI to prepare for the MSC certification process. In addition APRI also invited Mrs. Ir. Sri Rejeki (Diponegoro University) and all APRI members also attended this meeting.

“It should be understood that this year (2018) there is a Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Control (HARPC) replacement of HACCP imposed April 1, 2018. This adjusts to the needs of each buyer and preparations should also begin. HARPC is almost the same as SIMP (Seafood Import Monitoring Program). Fisheries Improvement Program never stops. Outside parties are also always a concern. This is the key for us to always export the crab meat”, said APRI Chairman, Kuncoro Catur Nugroho. He also reported on the Development of Cultivation and APRI Activities in General.

Dr. Hawis Madduppa (APRI executive director) presented on the Role of APRI for the Progress of Improvement of Sustainable BSC Fisheries in Indonesia. “APRI itself is considered better in managing BSC fisheries, but this program will be better if it is not limited to meeting export needs. In addition to preparing the MSC Chain of Custody certification, APRI will improve the APRI Application System (APRI App) for all APRI members, because the APRI application aims to facilitate the traceability program, “he says. APRI Secretary Bambang Arif Nugraha also presented SIMP 2018 and also conveyed the condition of the latest BSC export value. In addition, Mr. Sugeng Raharjo (Head of BBPBAP Jepara) also conveyed the related activities of BSC cultivation. The background of this cultivation activity is of course to keep the crab stock awake and get the crab raw material for all APRI members. The most important factor of crab cultivation is keeping the salinity high enough. It also needs information where the right area and support for cultivation, so that the desired target can be achieved.

For MSC, this year MSC has a special program in Indonesia called Fish For Good.MSC is an NGO that is a non-profit institution and does not take advantage of the certification process and the aim is to ensure that fisheries resources continue to supply fishery products in the world. At the end of the meeting from this first Quarterly Meeting, APRI distributes APRI membership certificates in 2018 as an appreciation to all its members.
