APRI since established on 2007 was committed to support the blue swimming crab sustainability through the Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP). Through the FIP, APRI organize various programs which are distribute in 6 focuses such as traceability system, stock assessment & enhancement, co-management, modified trap, enforcement & compliance, and empowerment, to realize the sustainaility of blue swimming crab. From the industry, blue swimming crab has a significant role in facilitating women to work, where now there were 185,000 pickers that all of them is women.

APRI always trying to keep doing development to face every challenges, and share the information about the blue swimming crab management. In the previous opportunity, Dr. Hawis Madduppa as an Executive Director of APRI delivered the Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP) and blue swimming crab fisheries gender profile in the Focus Group Discussion on Gender Mainstreaming in the Global Marine Commodities Project located at Double Tree by Hilton Central Jakarta, May 29, 2019. This activity was supported by Bappenas and UNDP Global Marine Commodities with intended to provide input for gender mainstreaming in the implementation of accelerating the improvement of pole and line tuna and blue swimming crab fisheries towards ecolabel.

The agendas include the presentations of gender profile in tuna fisheries by Asosiasi Perikanan Pole and Line & Handline Indonesia (AP2HI) and blue swimming crab fisheries by Asosiasi Pengelolaan Rajungan Indonesia (APRI), and then review and input from the researcher and invited participants. The expected output from this activity is the input for gneder profile of blue swimming crab and tuna fisheries; information about the condition, opportunity and challenge for gender equality in fisheries; and recommendation of strategy and action for strengthening the women roles and gender equality to support the fisheries improvement activities.
