Fishing Gear Swap Transformation in Muaragembong: APRI Strengthens Sustainable Blue Swimming Crab Fisheries

The initiative marks another important transition from gillnets to environmentally responsible fishing gear. This activity was carried out in collaboration between APRI, and
the Fisheries Agency of Muaragembong, Bekasi
The activity was attended by the Acting Head of the Capture Fisheries Division of the Bekasi Regency Fisheries Office, Ms. Ida Mayani, and the Secretary of the Bekasi Regency Fisheries Office, Ms. Yulia Legiyana.
The event was also attended by Ir. Bambang Arif Nugraha, Advisor to APRI, who symbolically received the gillnet fishing gear that was exchanged for bubu traps in accordance with NOAA recommendations related to the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) policy.
A total of 50 beneficiary gillnet fishermen from Mertasinga Village participated in the activity. In total, 1,000 bubu traps were distributed to fishermen groups in collaboration.
The activity was also attended by several APRI members, including BMI.
The joint initiative illustrates an ongoing commitment to improve sustainable practices and strengthen responsible fishing methods across Indonesia’s coastal regions.
