Harmonization of Stakeholder Meetings of Rajungan Fisheries of East Java Province-3 June 2021

Friday, 03 June 2021 APRI attended a meeting between crab fisheries stakeholders in East Java province. East Java is one of the largest crab-producing regions for the global market based on the latest data (BKIPM, 2020). Therefore, the importance of fisheries management in East Java which can later be implemented in other areas.

The meeting was held online and offline in Surabaya. The presentation of the work program of the East Java Province Marine and Fisheries Service, represented by Mr. Jadmika Sufiadi., S.Pi. The M.AP continued with the presentation of the APRI program listed in the Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) in the 12 APRI action plans. Ir. Gede Raka Wiadnya from Brawijaya University. The conclusions from the three resource persons above are very synergistic and are expected to be able to work together in sustainable crab fisheries management.

Mr. Ir. Kuncoro Nugroho as Chairman of APRI expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to discuss in order to carry out integrated management of crab commodities in East Java province, APRI through its FIP program which is based on three main principles, namely stock sustainability, environmental impact, and governance. Governance is an umbrella for stakeholders in carrying out sustainable management. APRI strongly supports the establishment of a crab management committee in East Java, which is one of the provinces with very high crab potential.
APRI had the opportunity in a meeting represented by Dr. Hawis Madduppa as the executive director of APRI who emphasized that the management of fishery in crabs is very important because of the importance of the role of government agencies as well as academics and business actors as well as crab fishermen in the effort of sustainable crab fisheries. APRI, which has a concern for crab fisheries, especially in Madura, will later receive a full MSC assessment certification as an indicator of sustainable crab management.

The Head of the Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of East Java Province added that collaboration from both Universitas Brawijaya and APRI is very beneficial. APRI itself has conducted data collection from 2014 until now. APRI also strives to increase the value of 28 good indicators of stock assessment, minimize environmental impact, management effectiveness. In this management effectiveness, the output or result is to form a crab management committee which will be able to synergize and collaborate optimally with the aim of advancing crab fisheries, especially in East Java. Mr. Miftakhol Arifin is very open and appreciates that this meeting is expected to be able to work together and collaborate for crab fisheries.

APRI is also very grateful to the Head of the East Java Province DKP and staff also UPT PMP2KP who have provided a forum for the meeting of the East Java Stakeholder Fishery Stakeholder Meeting which will later serve as a form of harmonization of cooperation related to crab fisheries stakeholders, especially East Java.
This activity was attended by DKP East Java, APRI, DKP Lamongan, DKP Sumenep, DKP Pamekasan, DKP Pasuruan, DKP Surabaya, BKIPM Surabaya II, MSC Indonesia, Brawijaya University, Trunojoyo University, UNAIR, PT. SMB, PT. Rex Canning, and MP Jumiang Indah.
