Risk-Based Framework Assessment Workshop, Surabaya, July 9-10, 2019
by adminapri July 15, 2019 0 commentsOne of the efforts to encourage sustainability is through a market incentive approach through product sustainability certification. Fisheries certification standards, for example the MSC Fisheries Standard, generally focus heavily on quantitative data that can be a barrier to fisheries that are operated in a relatively traditional and small-scale manner. So that fisheries like this can not be assessed with standard assessment indicators, in terms of Risk Based Framework (RBF) can be used.
The RBF is highly dependent and is compiled based on information gathered through workshops with relevant stakeholders and available data from fisheries. The Ministry of PPN / Bappenas through the Global Marine Commodities grant project in coordination with UNDP provides support to the Indonesian Blue Swimming Crab Association (APRI) in implementing a work plan for Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP) in Madura waters, East Java. As part of the implementation of the FIP work plan, APRI in coordination with the Agency of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of East Java Province and held a Risk Based Assessment Workshop for Blue Swimming Crab Fisheries in Madura Waters, East Java.
The workshop held on July 9-10 2019 at the Santika Premiere Gubeng Hotel, Surabaya with participated by various stakeholders such as the Agency of Marine Affairs and Fisheries around the Madura and the blue swimming crab supply chain such as fish processor unit, suppliers, and fishermens. In this opportunity, Dr. Ir. Zairion, M. Sc. presented about the Risk-Based Framework Assessment and then continued by Dr. Hawis Madduppa to lead the group discussion. In the group discussion, everyone in groups share the informations about the fishing gear and the animal presence around the Madura and Gresik waters through the map that provides before. Every participants play an important roles due to the background differences, and everyone in groups complete each other in sharing the information. After the group discussion was finished, they continued with provide the respons and input for blue swimming crab fisheries.
We realize that every stakeholders play an important role to support the sustainability of blue swimming crab fisheries. The lowest supply chain that direct interacted with the resources has the more knowledge that the upper supply chain are not know it, and vice versa. With the information that provides by every stakeholders, we sure that blue swimming crab fisheries management will be better and the sustainability will always realized.
