Strengthening Indonesia’s Blue Economy: APRI at National Policy Dialogue BRIN–UGM 2026

On Friday, May 22, 2026, the Asosiasi Pengelolaan Rajungan Indonesia (APRI) participated in the National Policy Dialogue hosted by Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

During the session, APRI Chairman, Kuncoro Catur Nugroho, emphasized the importance of adopting an investor mindset in the seafood industry. He encouraged participants to move beyond operational thinking and start making strategic, data-driven decisions—beginning with careful business reviews, selecting the right commodities, understanding supply chain dynamics, and identifying high-value opportunities within the seafood sector.

As part of the discussion, APRI highlighted key strategic approaches to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s fisheries industry. The focus was placed on strengthening downstream processing (fisheries downstreaming), increasing product value-added, and improving supply chain efficiency.

Equally important is the collaboration between industry players and the government. Strong policy support and targeted implementation are essential to unlock quick wins, particularly in addressing critical bottlenecks such as weak data systems, fragmented cold chain infrastructure, and limited industrial incentives.

With a structured and collaborative approach, Indonesia is not only positioned as a global seafood supplier but also has strong potential to become a leading hub for the global blue protein industry.

The event was attended by key stakeholders and prominent figures, with APRI also accompanied by Bambang Arif Nugraha throughout the discussion sessions.
