APRI Holds Strategic Meeting with PDSPKP to Align with MMPA Compliance

Jakarta, Friday – September 12, 2025 – The Indonesian Blue Swimming Crab Association (APRI) held a high-level audience with the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) to discuss short- and long-term action plans in response to the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) policy.

This special session was attended by Mr. Tornanda Syaifullah, S.E., M.M., Ak., CSFA, Director of PDSPKP at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), along with key officials and representatives from the industry.

During the meeting, APRI reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting marine mammal protection efforts. All 21 member group companies (representing 41 blue swimming crab processing units) have pledged to ensure that raw materials are sourced exclusively from traps (bubu), an environmentally friendly fishing gear, and not from gillnets or trammel nets, which pose risks to marine mammals.

This shared commitment underscores APRI’s proactive stance in aligning with international sustainability standards and securing continued access to key export markets, particularly the United States.

The meeting marks a milestone in collaborative governance between the Indonesian government and industry players, working together to enhance traceability, sustainability, and global competitiveness in the country’s blue swimming crab sector.
