APRI and WWF Indonesia Conduct ETP Bycatch Handling and Marine Mammal Rescue Training for Blue Swimming Crab Fishers in East Lampung

, organized a training program on ETP (Endangered, Threatened, and Protected) bycatch handling and basic marine mammal handling techniques for blue swimming crab fishers in Margasari Village, East Lampung.
The activity aimed to improve fishers’ understanding and practical skills in handling incidental catches involving protected marine species while promoting sustainable fishing practices in Indonesia’s blue swimming crab fisheries sector.
The training covered various important topics, including proper handling procedures for ETP species caught unintentionally during fishing operations, safe release methods, and basic responses for stranded or entangled marine mammals. Participants also received guidance on fisheries sustainability, marine ecosystem protection, and the importance of responsible fishing practices.
Held in Margasari Village, East Lampung, the program became an important platform for strengthening collaboration between fisheries stakeholders, conservation organizations, and local fishing communities in supporting sustainable marine resource management.
Through this initiative, APRI and WWF Indonesia
reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing fisher capacity, protecting marine biodiversity, and supporting the long-term sustainability of Indonesia’s blue swimming crab fisheries.
