Empowering Young Fishers in Rembang to Support Ocean Sustainability

Rembang, Central Java – A new generation is stepping up in Rembang’s blue swimming crab (BSC) fishery: young fishers aged between 20 and 30 years old are actively taking part in efforts to protect marine ecosystems and promote sustainable fisheries.

These young fishers bring fresh energy, dedication, and innovation to the community, focusing not only on catch but also on responsible and environmentally friendly fishing practices. Their commitment reflects a growing awareness of the importance of sustainability in maintaining long-term livelihoods and healthy oceans.

Actively involved in training, conservation programs, and the use of simple technologies, these youth-led fishing groups are working to improve traceability, ensure resource sustainability, and uplift the welfare of coastal communities.

“This is not just about making a living — it’s about protecting our ocean legacy for future generations,” said one of the young fishers in the group.

Their efforts deserve support and recognition from various stakeholders — including government agencies, NGOs, and consumers. Youth engagement in sustainable fisheries is a critical investment in the future of Indonesia’s marine resources.

🌊 Let’s support their spirit and dedication toward a healthy ocean and prosperous coastal communities.
