TRO Handy Seafood Inc together with APRI supports fishing gear swap in Bangkalan, Madura to strengthen sustainable blue swimming crab fisheries aligned with MMPA. The transformation of fishing practices in Indonesia continues to expand across coastal communities. As part of this effort, TRO Handy Seafood Inc, a long-standing member of the Association of Indonesian Blue Swimming Crab Processors (APRI), actively participated in the distribution of environmentally friendly crab pots (bubu) in Bangkalan, Madura. The activity is part of a broader initiative to encourage sustainable blue swimming crab fisheries and strengthen responsible supply chains for future generations.

The fishing gear swap program focuses on shifting from gillnets to selective and environmentally friendly crab pots. The use of pots significantly reduces bycatch, including risks to marine mammals, while improving traceability and meeting international sustainability standards.

This initiative is also aligned with the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) requirements for seafood entering global markets, particularly the United States.
