Pasuruan Fisheries Agency and APRI Fully Support Small-Scale Blue Swimming Crab Fishers for Sustainability
by adminapri September 29, 2025 0 commentsTuesday, June 17, 2025 – The Fisheries Office of Pasuruan Regency, represented by Head of Capture Fisheries Division Mr. Ahmad Solah and his staff, along with Pasuruan DPRD Member Mr. Eko Suryono and the APRI team, conducted a technical training session for small-scale blue swimming crab (BSC) fishers in Semedusari Village, Pasuruan Regency.
This ongoing capacity-building initiative is a form of appreciation for local fishers in Semedusari who have adopted environmentally friendly fishing gear — particularly bubu (traditional crab traps).
APRI continues to encourage fishers to use sustainable fishing gear like bubu to help maintain healthy crab populations and ensure long-term benefits for all involved — including fishers, trap makers, crab peelers, and others in the supply chain.
The event also included socialization and discussions on various sustainability-related topics, such as:
Advisories against harvesting juvenile or egg-bearing crabs,
Awareness of marine mammals and mitigation measures,
The importance of conserving crab habitats,
And updates on current market conditions.
The activity concluded with the symbolic handover of environmentally friendly bubu traps to the fishers as a sign of ongoing commitment to sustainable BSC fisheries management in the Pasuruan region.
This joint initiative demonstrates strong collaboration between local government, legislators, and industry stakeholders in supporting coastal communities and preserving marine resources for the future.
